"Peanuts, popcorn! Get your hotdogs," all ties together with America's favorite past time, one full of tradition, pride, and superstition. Yes, superstition, the unwritten laws that define the game. In some cases, it makes it much more than just baseball. There are so many things that the common eye overlooks in baseball. The game at times can look so easy...it's not. Hitting a baseball is considered the hardest feat in sports, but that's not it either. It is the consistency that's hard, it is the perfection in the game that reflects the morals of the American people, and we often fall short. Baseball is about the passion to be perfect in a game of failure; a hitter fails seven out of ten times at the plate and is still considered a hero. Superstitions are a way that a player can develop simplicity in a perfect routine. Superstitions will evolve to suit the mental aspects of the team or the player. If you watch the major league players, you will notice the same guys making millions of dollars are also the ones who wear gloves with millions of holes. A player can always add something to his routine if it has helped him find success on the field. For instance, if a player went 4-4 and realized that he
Moving to second base, after getting on base period, is the most important thing. It represents a run in scoring position and denies the defense the double play. I document this so I will know when he is doing something out of the ordinary on the mound. Most importantly, I judge the arm strength of the catcher and how he likes to through it, chest high or on the bag. This will determine the type of slide I will use. Either a j-hook slide, which is a feet first slide where the inner leg is thrown around the outer leg at the point of contact with the ground to deviate away from a tag, or my personal favorite-head first. I won the battle of the bag. I didn't do it for America's past time, but for the glory of the present. My job has been done. It sounded hard, but it was a tiny fight in a war of competition. Now, I wait for a teammate to come through and help establish an icon of victory on the scoreboard. It is now the duty of the next diamond warrior at the plate to have found what hypes him up for the game. It was one play, within one inning, that scored one run, now lets see if I can repeat the process. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ After that, I create my lead and listen to my fresh spikes
