The twelfth element on the periodic table is Magnesium. Its symbol is

Mg; it has an atomic number of twelve, and has an atomic mass of 24.321.

Magnesium belongs to the group 2a of the periodic table. Its chemical name is

magnesium. Magnesium melts at 650 degrees Celsius, and boils at 1090 degrees

Celsius. An English chemist Sir Humphry Davy discovered it in 1808.

Pure Magnesium does not occur in nature. Various minerals contain

magnesium compounds and must go through certain procedures to create this

metal. These elements are mainly carnallite, dolomite, and magnesite.

Magnesium is produced through the Dow process, the Electrolysis process,

and/or the Silicothermic process. (See diagram 1) The most common process

used out of these is the Dow process, which transfers into the Electrolysis
