democracy

Canadian and American Political Systems

Democracy is defined as a form of government for the people by the will of the majority of the people. Many countries have democratic governments however, these governments can be very different in design and function. This is displayed in comparing Canada and the United States. These two countries execute very different ways of achieving this democratic form of government. Some democracies are parliamentary or constitutional monarchies (Canada), while others are republics (United States). It is debatable as to which governmental system is more democratic however, the American system has many aspects which make it appear to be more democratic.

Canada's governmental system can be classified as parliamentary or constitutional monarchy. Like the United states, Canada has a federal system in which governmental powers are divided between the central government and regional or provincial governments. This means that he is not responsible to the body of congress. He is elected by a presidential election where each voting ind!

After examining the Canadian and American political systems it is clear to see that the American has more features which ensure a more democratic government. In the United States individuals vote on senate members as well as the President, whereas in Canada the Prime minister is empowered by being the leader of the party with the most elected representatives. The voting process in the United States ensures a more democratic way of selecting the leader of the nation or elected representatives as each vote is equal in comparison to the election of representatives according to riding where the population of each riding varies. The American system of government cannot determine the election date, as can the prime-minister, according to his convenience. And finally the American government has more checks and balances than the Canadian government to ensure that the major
