During the seventeen century a form of musical drama in which vocal and instrumental music are both used, was further distinguished into the performance of tragic and comic plays. Buffa opera (in French - Comique, and in German - Singspliel), had its purpose to make people laugh. In addition, Buffa opera was treated as a piece of the less quality performance often attended by middle and low class of the societies. From the other side , Opera Seria was serious performance with castrato as an mayor part of the vocal production. Opera Seria was usually attended by aristocrats and wealthy individuals that were placed high in the society.

Eventhou, opera has divided its main plots into different directions, there was one important exception that changed future development of music and opera itself. It was 1875, when opera Carmen saw the light of reality. The composer was Jean Bijet and libretto was taken from the novel written by Prosper Merimee, French literature novelist, who is the original author of the story about Carmen.
