1984 by George Orwell
Step inside ... a world of total perfection you never thought possible. Could it be? Is it really possible that we could create a world of perfection? George Orwell wrote his book 1984, which portrayed his thoughts of the future to come. Orwell began writing his book at the end of the World War when so many wanted to take over the world. In his book he writes about the "perfect society" under Big Brother. Big Brother is the supposed leader of the totalitarian government. The government consists of four distinct ministries: The Ministry of Love, The Ministry of Truth, The Ministry of Peace and The Ministry of Plenty. Each Ministry has its own purpose in keeping up with the three slogans of the Party. The three slogans being War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery and Ignorance is Strength. Orwell goes on to describe the government through the eyes of Winston Smith who happens to work for The Ministry of Truth. George Orwell did not believe that the society he described would! ever come to be but he does believe that something of its kind would come about. The very thought of a world presented in 1984 ever existing gives one a total shiver up their spine. To think that there life could be watched and monitored every day of t
Ministry of Peace concerned itself for the war that was constantly going on between Oceania, Eastasia, and Eurasia. The Ministry of Love maintained law and order. The Ministry of Plenty took can of the economic affairs. The Ministry of Love is the one feared by all. Ironic enough the Ministry of Love was more like our Prisons. "There were no windows in it at all...It was a place impossible to enter except on official business, and then only by penetrating through a maze of barbed-wire entanglements, steel doors, and hidden machine gun nests. Even the streets leading up to its outer barriers were roamed by gorilla-faced guards in black uniforms, armed with jointed truncheons (p.6)." This Ministry hardly lives up to its title of "love." The many thoughts and beliefs of the government were very much oxymorons. Three prime examples are the slogans of the Party. There were three "classes" that made up the society. The Inner Party made up about one percent of the government and held high posts in the administration of the country. The Outer Party, which made up eighteen percent of the government (website) and are the "puppy dogs" of the society. They do whatever the government wishes at any point in time. The Proles make up the remaining eighty-one percent (website). This party is like the poor. The Proles are used by the government as laborers. Without them they society could possibly fall apart. The society in 1984 although seeming far-fetched has slowly become a part of our existing government. With gov
