The Moon
"Hey Billy, wait up", Niko called to his friend as they were walking to school one day. Niko was a young boy, only eleven years of age and yet always friendly with everyone he came into contact with. He always seemed to be different from the others in some supernatural way, but he never paid much attention to the fact that he was different. Growing up, his dad, Boris, was very strict and punished him all of the time. Niko did not deserve to be punished, but Boris often acted out when he was drunk. Niko's father punished him physically, whereas other parents punish their children by revoking privileges. Niko's mother, Becky, tried to help but she knew that she would only get Niko into more trouble. When he came into school hurt, he used to say that he fell down the stairs. The teacher started getting very suspicious when Niko was around eight but she didn't do anything about it. When Niko was nine, he had a better teacher and she had called the police. Boris was arrested sever!al times, but Becky kept on bailing him out because she was afraid that when he did get out he would get mad. Becky knew that he would just hit Niko again. It came to the point where Boris started hitting Becky once in a while.
One night Boris came into Niko's room extremely drunk. He had been out all night at the local bar and smelled of tobacco and beer. It was 2 am and Niko heard the door slam as Boris walked into the house. So as not to get his father very upset, Niko lay still in bed, pretending to be asleep. He heard Boris walking up the steps and the sounds were very scary to Niko. When Boris came into Niko's room he noticed that Niko was just acting to be asleep. This act drove Boris into a rage to the point where he began shaking ad hitting Niko. Becky heard Niko's screams and came rushing in. She tried to stop her husband, but she was just wasting her energy because when Boris gets drunk, he gets severely violent. He whispered to her, "It is going to be OK now". Niko walked over to him very slowly. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Niko felt as though he needed to tell someone about his problem but he couldn't. He felt too ashamed, and anyway, he knew that his father would just beat him worse I he revealed this secret. Niko felt rejected from his father and sometimes wondered why his mother does not do anything about the situation but then said to himself that it was probably a good reason. Niko was probably the least selfish person in the world. "Get down on your knees and beg for my forgiveness," Boris said. n the corner of his room thinking about this magic.
