Gandhi

Gandhi was an Indian lawyer and a leader of nonviolent movements to free India from Britain's rule. He accomplished this and many other things in his life that made a big impact on history as we know it.

The Indians wanted their independence from Britain because they were being treated very unfairly. For example, the British forced the Indians to buy expensive salt from British-owned salt mines, when all along the Indians could have made their own inexpensive salt from the Bay of Bengal or the Indian Ocean. The British forced their customs upon the Indians and also forced them to be educated under British ways. All their old beliefs were exterminated when the British came in. However, after a while when the Indians were educated under British ways, they realized that they weren't being treated fairly according to the European laws. Their rights were being violated, they just needed someone to lead the way
