On July 16, 1969, at 9:32 a.m., at Kennedy Space Center, Florida, three astronauts were about to embark on the first manned lunar landing. These brave astronauts were Michael Collins, Edwin E. Aldrin Jr., and Neil A. Armstrong. Little did these three astronauts know that this space adventure would change the world's perspective of space travel forever. On launch pad 39A sat Apollo 11-the first space rocket that ever landed on the moon. On top of this enormous piece of equipment sat the three astronauts. The command module pilot was Michael Collins. Collins would not land on the moon instead he would orbit around the moon keeping track of the other astronaut's progress. Collins was a test pilot and he had already been in space on the Gemini 10 mission and had walked in space. The Co-pilot of the lunar module was Edwin E. Aldrin but the other astronauts called him by his nickname "Buzz". Aldrin was a thirty-nine year old pilot in the Air Force. Like Michael Collins he had also been in space before on the Gemini 12 mission and he walked in space longer than any other man. The mission commander Neil A. Armstrong would be the first man to ever set foot on the moon. Like the rest of his fellow astronauts Armstrong was a Navy pilot and
After a brief rest, the astronauts had to prepare Eagle for the launch from the Moon. Eagle soon launched from the Moon's surface and docked with Columbia. Collins greeted Armstrong and Aldrin and helped them to load the samples and equipment onboard. After all this Eagle was released from Columbia and eventually crashed on the Moon. Eagle was now descending to its landing point on the moon. Everything was going until Aldrin and Armstrong heard herd a warning siren go off (Cole 21). One of their onboard computers was overrun with information and was giving the astronauts wrong information. They continued their decent despite of the alarm. As Eagle neared one hundred feet above the moon, Armstrong gazed at the chosen landing site. Instead of a clear flat surface he saw the ground littered with huge boulders. He quickly over ran the auto landing system and flew Eagle to a safer place to land. Armstrong soon replied to mission control, "The Eagle has landed. On day four the view of the moon from inside the spacecraft was magnificent. The view of the moon filled up the entire windows and the astronauts started to get anxious, as they were about to pass around the dark side of the moon and would lose complete contact with earth. During this time the three astronauts would fire Columbia's engines to slow themselves down and get into lunar orbit. If it worked, their next step would be to prepare Eagle for its descent to the moon. Two days later, on Thursday, July 24, 1969, Apollo 11 reentered the Earth's atmosphere. Soon after the three astronauts splashed down in the Pacific Ocean. Apollo 11 had returned on the greatest adventure that mankind has ever embarked on. On Sunday it was time for the astronauts to show their stuff. Aldrin crawled into Eagle to run a system of checks on all of the onboard equipment. Everything was go for the descent to the moon. As the spacecraft passed around the dark side of the moon for the second time Armstrong and Aldrin activated the landing gear on Eagle. Collins activated a button and Eagle was undocked from Apollo. Eagle was now slowly decenting to the Moon's s
