Last Time I cried

The last time that I cried was on this past New Year's Eve. I had planned on making this New Year's Eve the best ever since for the past three years, I've unfortunately had a rotten night to bring in the New Year, which I think jinxes my chances of having a good year.

Anyhow, I was in Fairfax, Virginia at the time visiting my dad and my friends. I had previously been living in Virginia for two years for my sophomore and junior year. So, for my senior year I decided to come back to Richmond and be with my mom.

New Year's Eve started off to a good start. My friend Teresa and I went shopping for new outfits so we'd look our best at this big party we planned going to later that night with some other friends. After that we went to my house and got ready. Once we were ready, we left my house to meet up with our other friends. We ended up taking two cars. Teresa and I in one car, Holly, Lisa, and Kari in another car.

Now, for the past few days I had been kind of down and out. Before I moved back to Indiana in August, I was seeing a guy name Jimmy Felker, who I thought at the time was so wonderful and sweet. We got along so great. We had so much in common. There was definitely a connection between us. His friends loved me an

Now, I must say that I absolutely hate alcohol. I really do not like to drink. But it was New Year's Eve, I didn't think a few drinks would hurt and they didn't. It was all the other drinks I had after the first few.

Then, towards the end of November while I was online, he signed on which surprised me because I hadn't seen him online since the summer.

I waited impatiently a few days before I broke down and called him. I finally got a hold of him and it sounded so nice hearing his voice, knowing he wasn't that far from me now.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

He clicked over and kept me waiting for five minutes before I hung up and being the persistent person that I am, called back. This time I got no answer. I picked up his message quickly. He obviously didn't want to talk to me.

Back to the trip to the New Year's Eve party, I was psyched about going and meeting new people. But I had this funny feeling that I'd run into Jimmy at the party. As my luck would have it, I was right.

The next day he and his friends came over to visit. I enjoyed playing hostess, trying to make a good impression on Jimmy's friends, for he had brought over two new friends that I hadn't met before.

I felt my heart fall to my feet and shatter into a million of invisible pieces. I blinked back tears and jumped up, putting my head down to avoid direct eye contact with anyone else. I ran over to my friend Teresa and began to cry uncontrollably as I explained everything I had seen to her. There was nothing she could really say to me though to make me feel better, so she just listened as I cried my eyes out for a long time.

A little while later I started feeling a lot better and I got up and began to "mingle" around a little bit. I went into the living room and sat down on one of the couches. I saw Jimmy across the room from the corner of my eye talking with friends and flirting with a particular girl.

Now, a few weeks later and I am much better. The whole situation has passed over and I think it's a good thing that I'm here right now because he's not anywhere near me. I'm happy again and I know I'll never again shed a tear for the boy I thought I truly loved, Jimmy Felker.

For the rest of the night, although I was hurting deep inside, I blocked my emotions so as not to act upon them. I played cards with some people I met that night for a little bit before I couldn't stand looking at Jimmy any longer. I retrieved into one of the rooms where my friends had been for most of the evening and watched television quietly. I really wasn't concentrating on the programs that were being shown though.
