To learn oneself, one must stand alone without influences from others. Nora stated this in her own way when she said, "I must stand quite alone if I am to understand myself and everything about me." Nora unknowingly took steps before reaching this ultimate discovery. Once she took the last step, the pieces fell together and she fell into this exposition of the human condition.
As Nora talks to Christine in Act I she says:
