Maglevs
Magnetically levitated trains (maglevs) may be the transportation of the future because of their many advantages on modern transportation we use today. Maglevs are trains that run on magnets in a certain way so that they are equally levitated. They are a lot better than the trains we use today and run almost as fast as an airplane: 320 mph. Their maintenance is about 10 times less expensive than the trains today. Since a maglev has no wheels to run on a track, the tracks can't get worn out and have to be repaired. Also, these trains run on magnets, and therefore do not produce pollution, making them much more environmentally safe. There are two types of maglevs; a superconducting maglev and an electromagnetic maglev. Electromagnetic ones will most likely be used more than the superconducting ones. (How Things Work) Electromagnetic maglevs are faster and have easier formulas than superconducting maglevs.(World Book) An electromagnet is a direct magnetic field produced b
An electromagnetic maglev is a sophisticated train in terms of its physics, but it's probably one of the best inventions for future transportation. Scientists in Germany and Japan are working on maglevs trains to be commercially used in about 2005. Although this is a great invention and good for the environment, the cost to build these vehicles is quite expensive. The train rails are approximately $10,000,000 per mile, but it is predicted that the cost of this will go down by 2005 because the materials to build this will be more suppliant. Besides all of the money expenses and building time, these trains are for sure a necessity in the world even today. It will be able to commute many passengers at a much faster speed than fueled trains. In conclusion, this great new invention will be an excellent advantage to our world, and will most likely make us human beings a lot happier in the transportation part.
