David ordered his men to kill Recab and Baanch. They cut off their hands and feet and hung their bodies by the pool in Hebron. They took Ish-Bosheth's head and buried it in Abner's tomb. Israel came to David and said, "We are your blood and are devoted to you." The elders and David made a compact and anointed David king over Israel. He was thirty and reigned forty years. He reigned over Judah and Israel for 33 years. In Hebron he reigned over Judah 7 years and 6 months. David and his men marched to Jerusalem to attack the Jebusites. Joab sent a woman to go before the king and act as if her sons got in a fight. One was killed and the other left but is returning. The people were mocking her and David told her that if anyone would bother her, to come tell him and they wouldn't any more. David knew Joab did this and allowed Absalom to come back. David told Uriah to go home and spend time with his wife but he refused. David wrote a letter to Joab telling him to put Uriah in the front of the army and then retreat so Uriah would die.
