United States of America, is one of the strongest world powers, and yet there are problems that may be swept underneath the carpet. Fitchen's article is dealing with those problems we, as Americans tend to hide. Fitchen starts off by stating the realization of the "Third World Hunger", and as to how massive media, fund raisers, and relief aid is blocking our views on poverty, malnutrition, and hunger here on our very own soil. The article states that we do have several welfare and food programs for the poor, but that these programs are not adequate enough, in actuality they are just promoting malnutrition. I think that the problem also is improper training, and a great deal to do with just plain and lazy people. Some would rather beg, and just get by, rather than try to better themselves. The article also points out that in the last few years organizations, soup kitchens, food banks, and other emergency food banks have almost doubled, as has the amount of people that attend these services. Fitchen takes a look at the eating patterns and their eating habits as they are shaped by the constraints of poverty. Such as the lack of storage space, more frequent visits to shop, lack of transportation, and the obvious lack of money. As for the food stamp program, well that all depends. Sure there may be a decline in food stamp users, and I am not sure if there is a good reason for such a decline, especially if there is a major problem here in the United States.
