Between the years of 1920 and 1923, just after World War I, the country of Germany suffered through a period of crisis. What is it that caused such a damaging phase in this country? The Allies in Germany had established a destructive government whose only achievement was the wide spread of universal sufferage (INSERT). The Weimar Republic was born out of turmoil and defeat, under near civil war conditions and hampered by a harsh peace settlement and an unstable economy. It is because of this that Germany was then constantly subjected to attacks from left and right (INSERT). In november of 1918, a parliamentary republic was proclaimed in Germany known as the Weimar Republic. The Weimar Republic was named after the town in which it was developed (INSERT). It was a poor excuse for a government and was doomed to fail from the start. A government can not properly operate when not wanted, encouraged, nor expected by the public. There was a large number of Germans who rejected democracy as a form of government (INSERT). Represented by the communist party of Germany, the extreme left felt such an enduring hostility to the Weimar Republic that at times it cooperated with the extreme right in efforts to destroy the republic (INSERT). The right opposed democracy and desired to establish a conservative authoritarian regime. Yet the extreme right posed a graver threat to the Weimar Republic that the extreme left because it enjoyed the support of most of Germany's establishments such as the educational system, the military, the financial elites, the state bureaucracy, and so on (INSERT).
