A detailed Summary of Pride
Violence, crime, and poverty ravage our streets and explode upon our television sets. The evening news often broadcasts tragedy and pain while barely touching on the amazing accomplishments of society today. There are so many incredible triumphs of mankind. Because of humanity's response in a time of need, the frequent advancements in technology, and those who perform occupations for the benefit of society, I am proud of our human race.
It is hard to ignore the natural instinct in all of us to help someone when they need it most. Whether it is in response to something is immense as a natural disaster or as minor as a car accident, we are driven by compassion to reach out to those who cannot help themselves. We often hear of fires that reduce homes to ashes, ruin possessions, and sometimes take lives. After the smoke clears and uncertainty of the future arises, many people will band together in an effort to help a family they do not know. Food and shelter are provided along with gifts of money, clothing, and toys for those who have nothing left. Not to mention the more often occurrences of kindness that we encounter daily. Another reason why I am proud of the world in which we live is the incredible advancements that we have accomplished in technology. From the wheel to NASA's space shuttles, we have continuously explored and conquered barriers that we had previously encountered. The computer is one advancement that has revolutionized technology as it was known many years ago. Considering that humans first used flowers and natural dyes to scrawl on cave walls, and then advanced to an ink well and a sharpened feather to be used for several hundred years as a form of communication, the computer was an unimaginable invention. At first, computers were used only for certain companies and businesses. Today they are used in almost every home and every school without contemplation as to where we would be without them. Today's technology was not possible yesterday and tomorrow's technology will outdate today's. We are constantly increasing the quality of living and with that come all of these fan!
Before this assignment I had not given thought to exactly why I was proud of society, or if I even was proud at all.
