In Gloria Steinem's These Are Not the Best Days of Your Life and Scott Russell Sanders Looking at Women speak at somewhat opposite points. Steinem articulates the amount of success women are encountering nowadays, whereas Sanders thinks women present themselves as dolls more than anything else. Women are still undergoing discrimination, whether it be on the job or on the street it is still a part of everyday life.
Steinem speaks of how women are now coming onto college campus' in record numbers and while they may for the most part be treated as equals on campus, when they finally enter into the workforce they do not benefit from equal pay for equal work. Men's salaries are nearly double to what women make.
Sander's addresses that with the way women tend to dress, he isn't sure if he should observe them as dolls. He recalls a time when he was younger when he saw a young girl walking down the street wearing a very tight halter-top and short shorts. He feels as though she is only doing this to impress men, but as he looks back he does recall that she may have only

While both writers basically shared the opinion that women are still treated as the weaker sex they differed on many points. Sanders more or less stated that he wasn't quite sure how to view women and thought that perhaps he should view women as dolls because they do tend to degrade themselves in some of the industries that they work in and clothing that they put on. Steinem came with a different point claiming that women are now more successful than they've ever been, many are seeking higher education and go onto prominent jobs, they are still facing some discrimination by not receiving equal pay and not always getting the jobs that they are best qualified for.
There is a huge competition amongst women. Steinem makes a point by saying while everybody wants equal pay for themselves; it's a completely different thing to want it for everyone. Most don't want to start a huge reform, they want what's right for them and they are perfectly content on settling with that. There really is nothing wrong with this, you are not very likely to see a man speaking out for
