Canadian Elections
The year 2000 Canadian elections. This paper is an argument on all sides of each member's party platform. I will argue out each platform, and finally come to an educated decision. To for warn you, I am a card-carrying member of the Progressive Conservative Party. So it will be a hard argument to change the end result. My view on what should be done in politics in order for me to vote for the right party. I'm looking for a guy that wants to bring up the issue of lowering tax, take advantage of our newfound economy. The guy who has interest in keeping the wealth to Canadians, keep it in the family sort of deal. I would like to know that I have a job waiting for me when I'm done my education, knowing that my tax money will help me in the long run. Not going to a $200,000 fountain in Chretian's hometown. One of the first things that struck me on the Liberal party platform was the statement, "Canada will be a smart country. Under a liberal government Canada will expand it's considerable knowledge, innovation, and research capacity, and accelerate its leadership in the new economy. Canada will become a magnet for talented people and new investors." ( Internet: "Liberal party platform" Liberal Home Page (Nov 4, 20
Another thing that bothers me is the statement; "Our country was built by immigrant's who were drawn to Canada by the promise of the land." ( Internet: "Liberal party platform" Liberal Home Page http://www.liberal.ca/site/pdf/platform_eng.pdf accessed on Nov12, 2000.) This is all fine, I have nothing against immigration to Canada, and in fact I encourage it. I was just wondering if the liberal party is considering Canadians in this. Canadians should have the option to qualify for a job before they start to import to fill positions. The elections are coming near, and though I started this project with strict bias, that was brought about by my up bringing. I still follow my father's opinion that the PC party has the right idea and philosophy to make the country the way everyone knows it should be. I father once presented me with an idea on what he thought a nation of such diversity and out right boldness on the issues should be like. I do believe in his ideas, I also believe that people like Peter McKay can make the idea that my dad gave me about Canada a bit closer. Mr. McKay, has the youthfulness, and the eagerness to succeed in portraying our future. He hasn't been polluted by a strict up bringing and does know what Canada's future runner's need to survive. As for the other parties: Cretian, and his liberals, they have wonderful ideas on a better living and easier look at a better future, but I heard of too many broken promises by his party and want a leader that can perform and his suggestion! The Canadian Alliance had a devastating blow to their campaign for leader of the country. The Globe and Mail newspaper released and article that showed the secret agenda of the Canadian Alliance. "Under the Prime Minister ship of Stockwell Day, parliament would hold a free vote on Marijuana use, natives on reserves would loose their sales tax exemptions, the CBC would be put up for sale, and 25 percent of the voters in a riding could unseat a member of parliament." (Internet: "Day's Plan Found in Secret Paper" Globe and Mail (November 2, 2000) http://www.globeandmail.ca accessed on Nov 14, 2000.) Basically what this document does, is tell us what a door-to-door canvasser would do when confronted with certain question. The document also tells of the projected number of votes that need to be casted in order to cause a national referendum. This is the same as the figure as the number of votes the Alliance party received in the 1997 election, coincidence I think not. The PC party has a sound plan to achieve a better Canadian economy, where everyone can enjoy. I personally found that the idea for creating a income tax free haven for the people that cant really afford it, is a idea that should be implemented no matter what party goes into power. The PC party plans to raise the level of income annual
