"What has happened to me?" A question asked in the story "Miss Brill". The reader can't help but feel a bit taken in by the charm of Miss Brill. She has a way of talking that almost leads the reader to believe she is dressing for a night out with friends. But, to the readers surprise, she isn't! Miss Brill is a story of an old woman who has gone so far out of the loop of society that she no longer realizes she is not in it. Many elderly people have a set of rituals to be performed regularly. But Miss Brill's activities are far from ordinary. She has an interesting way of diagnosing the people she mentally interacts with.
