A detailed Summary of Literary Analysis For "Unforgiven"

Purpose: My purpose was to choose one of the one-hundred American greatest movies and analyze it.

Plan: To identify how the director created the film, and what different eye catching things the director put in the movie to make it so interesting.

Field study: As I observed the movie, "Unforgiven," I looked at the different elements to analyze this movie. I looked at some of the characters, lighting, conflict, and the choice of color instead of black and white screen. "Unforgiven" is an action pack, cowboy western type of movie. As I examined this movie, I found it to have a plot that was unlike any other movie I have ever seen.

The conflict of this movie is about the old western days when there were real cowboys, saloons, and killing, which to me made the movie seem real. It seemed real because you hear about all the shoot-outs that happened back then, and all the prostitution, it was kind of like living in that era (that's how the director made you feel). The director made it seem like killing was a sport. It all started when a whore wanted to have sexual relations with a cowboy, but when he took his pants off to show her what he had she wasn't happy, she was hysterical. She started giggl

After viewing these aspects of the movie, I came to realize that the plot was grotesque. It is easy to see that the writer of this film was obviously a male, because of all the violance, and also because all the women were whores and had no self-respect. If I had to grade this movie on a scale from one to ten , I would give it a five because for one it is not for kids, and the plot was alright. This was a movie that I would take off the hundred greatest movies list.

As for all the scenes in the movie, the light was very effective. When something was going to happen it was raining. For instance, the three cowboys road into town and didn't see the sign "no fire arms beyond this point." The two cowboys, Ned and Kid went up stairs in the saloon to be with the whores as an advantage on their payment for killing the men. Little Bill, the sheriff was notified that there was three men in town. William was sitting in the saloon waiting for his friends. This movie was too predictable. Then everyone went against him, because he told them that he didn't have a gun. Bill knew that he was lying, so they all kicked the crap out of him. Throughout this movie, whenever something bad was going to happen, they made it rain. It sure rained a lot. This movie was really all about a bunch of psycho cowboys.

As one knows the film was in color, but would have made a better impression if it was in black and white. The movie was under the action section, but should have been under the western section. It was made a long time ago, so the director probably made it that way to make it more interesting. If it had made in black and white, then I would have expected all the killing.
