Professor Sebok English 105 Paper #1 Comparison/Contrast Paper Women in Television How real is Ally Mcbeal? That is the main question being asked in the recent article in the Washington Post. In the article, 'Ally Mcbeal,' Insecurity Blanket, written by Lonnae O'Neal Parker, the question is answered. Through quoting the song lyrics played in the famous television show, Ally Mcbeal, the writer gives you the real feeling of what the show is about. In her humorous article, Parker is able to find many different perspectives of the viewers of the show. Using expressions such as "a k a", and terms such as "creepy", Parker expresses different women's opinions of the television show, in a mannerism that is just like the show itself. In a different light, articles referring to women in television could be written very differently. Written in the Journal of Popular Film and Television, Rhonda V. Speaking to a group of friends who watch the show every airing, Parker expresses the feelings of the women with complete rationale and fluency. The article requires a certain audience, younger and mainly female and most importantly, big television watchers. In an article very different from Parker, one can easily contrast the differences between a popular article (Parker's) and a scholarly article. In the Journal of Popular Film and Television, Rhonda V. Wilcox's article, Dominate Female, Superior Male, looks at women in television in completely different tone. Using references from many years back and a very intellectual tone, the article is very different! lthough the article has pictures, which is uncommon for scholarly articles, the look is even more formal. Each page is a three column page, with small writing and no breaks in-between paragraphs. The article was written exceptionally well for a scholarly article, in that, I found it interesting, but Parker's article was much easier to read and understand. The article broke down many issues that were lightly discussed in Parker's article, into many deep and complex thoughts. Both of t
