Film analysis of "Stepmom"
Movies are made to entertain and to show different perspectives of lif. Stepmom does both. This move is 124 minutes long and rated PG-13 for language and thematic elements. Julia Roberts and Susan Sarandon co-star in this drama that was released in the year 1998 by Columbia Sony Pictures. Stepmom is based on a novel written by Ms. Gigi Levangie and is directed by Chris Columbus. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the plot, characterizartion, and special effects techniques used in the production of Stepmom. In addition, reviews of the film upon release will be discussed. Stepmom opens with a panaramic view of New York City. Isabel (Julia Roberts), a young fashion photographer, wakes up and starts searching for Ben, her boyfriend's son. She runs into Ana ( ), Ben's sister, and starts making breakfast. She finds Ben ( ) who hid in a cabinet. Jackie ( ), both children's mother, comes and takes the children who are ecstatic when they see her. Jackie throws away the lunches Isabel made and they all go into the car., At Isabel's studio, everyone is waiting for her to arrive. The next scene takes place in the dean's office. Lunk ( ), Jackie's ex-husband, is introduced. The shot is a medium shot, which is a middle distance and is natural looking. The two are in a meeting to discuss Ana's behavior in school. The dean suggests that it is because of the way the two are acting towards each other. She lies and says she is being offered her job back at Random House, where she used to work before she had her children. Ben falls off of the jungle gym and the scene fades into a hospital. Ben gets five stitches on his shin. When Jackie reaches the doorway of the room, she stops and watches as Isabel talks to Ben. When Isabel starts singing the theme song, Jackie walks away sadly. She tells her to pick up Ben at a birthday party because she has a meeting with Random House. While Isabel is driving to pick Ben up, the address to the party flies out of the window. Isabel calls Random House and finds out that Jackie has been lying the entire time about the meetings. Isabel drives into Jackie's driveway and tells Jackie that she knows she is planning to tak the kids with her to California after finding an airplane ticket.
