A detailed Summary of megan's law

He walked the streets of Hamilton, New Jersey with a mission to mutilate and destroy, hidden in the shadows of the darkness. What was it that possessed this being to commit such a malicious crime, taking the life of an innocent 7 year old girl? Twice convicted pedophile, Jesse Timmendequas's horrific crime caused legislatures to pass what is known as Megan's Law, or the Sex Offender Notification Law. Although not all states have passed the law, those that have passed it have done so in light of many reasons. Some of these reasons are because it forewarns surrounding families of a convicted sex offender, because of how rape and sex offense crimes effect the victims, and lastly because protecting the life and mentality of the children is so important.

In the summer of 1994, he kidnapped her, raped her, and then proceeded to kill her by strangulation with a belt until her mouth bled; and to ensure that she would die, he covered her head with a plastic bag. After dumping her body in a local park, the killer joined the party searching for Kanka. In the name of this little girl, Megan's Law protects families and towns from these criminals in three ways: releasing their names to newspapers, notifying schools and child care centers, and allowing access to the lists upon request (Bai 67).
