India

The separation of Bengal from the Indian National Congress in 1905 ignited a political tremor through India. People of India revolted and protested against the unexpected proposal. The rebellion made Indian confidence stronger, and brought national harmony. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi came into picture in 1915 to help in the overwhelming advance to free India. He instructed his fellow brethren to attack the enemy, the British, through non-violence and public disobedience. In 1948, Gandhi was assassinated.

After independence from Britain, India went through economic problems. Because of World War II and the independence from Britain hardship, India was hurting. On January 26, 1950, India came up with a process to heal its wound. First, they would secure the incorporation of substantial states, and then, they would redraw the boundaries of the states to adjust to the desires of major ethnic groups in India.

Embedded conflict between Hindus and Muslims still fester up to this day. The Muslim community is said to be India's number one declared enemy and the greatest danger to the nation. The rise of Hindu's fundamentalism in India is increasingly seen as a threat to that country's Muslim and Christian populations


European influenced India to enjoy many of today's sports. Cricket is the favorite among Indians. India competes in cricket at the highest level of international competition. Along with cricket, soccer and hockey also are the most popular sports in India. India is home to one of the oldest sports in the world, freestyle wrestling. Today, wrestling clubs are found all over India and headed over by gurus, or religious teachers.

India's literacy rate is at 52%. Of that percentage, 65.5% are men and only 37.7% are women. India is trying to raise those numbers by making education for children 6-14 free and required. It's not being achieved due to dropouts and lack of facilities to educate the youth in. In 1979, the informal education system was put in use because of the large number of dropouts and non-enrolled children. One-teacher schools aren't helping either; especially when the teacher doesn't show up or assigns untrained teachers.

Religious, family oriented, and philosophical best reflects the Republic of India. The Hindu religion controls most of the Indian nation. India is home to about 300 languages with Hindi and English as the more frequently spoken. Long cloth hung over the body is the main apparel for both the male and female Indian, but some Indian men have been influenced by the western-style's slacks and shirt.

Historically rooted tensions between Hindus and Muslims have been rekindled in recent years. The rivalry grew ever since the separation of British India into India and Pakistan (a Muslim country) took place. Their main reason for disagreement is their fight over Kashmir; on whether it should turn secular like India or not. Ever since, India named itself a nuclear nation, Pakistan tested their own nuclear weapons, and now it's feared that there will be a devastating war between the two nations.

Madame Bhikaiji Cama and her group of expelled rioters raised a flag symbolizing the Indian people's aspiration to nationhood in Paris in the early 19OOs. Widely accepted as the first flag in the Indian freedom movement, the Paris banner had a red band with a white lotus flower and seven stars to signify the Milky Way. It also had a yellow band with Vande Mataram inscribed in deep blue Devanagri script; a green band with a sun on the left and a crescent-and-star symbol on the right, both in white.

India's armed forces consist of an Army, a Navy, Air Force, and paramilitary forces. Paramilitary forces keep the coasts, borders, and vulnerable security areas protected from intruders. In all, India's military are equipped with about 200 million armed and ready soldiers. Most of the troops are made up of volunteers around the country who were destined to fight for their country. To enlist in the Republic of India's military, you must be at the minimum of seventeen years old or older. Depending on the service and skill, the maximum is between 20-27.
