ANIMAL RIGHTS"Speciesism" is the view that a mere difference in species is a morally significant difference justifying differential treatment, independently of their characteristics and attributes as individuals. Ever since The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to animals was formed in England 1824, there have been long running debates on the topic of animal rights. The first societies were formed to protect and maintain human treatment of work animals, such as cattle and horses. Towards the end of the 19th century more organizations were formed, this time to protest against the use of animals in scientific experimentation. In today's society, groups such as People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) have continued these traditional campaigns with greater force as well as adding new agendas. These new agendas include action against hunting, fishing and the dissection of animals in science classes. I believe that experiments with animals are cruel and unjust, and that they violate all forms of moral behavior that we humans have.
