A leadership goal that is important to anyone in the aspect of business is risk taking. I could defiantly improve my skills in this area. Everyone takes risk but, is they the right ones, is they calculated, or are they unnecessary.
Risk taking is a very touchy area. If you do it properly you can succeed with great benefits but it can also break you. Risk taking is very important in business " Although settling into your comfort zone may be tempting, it will certainly not put you on the track to success. The only way to grow your business and yourself is to work at becoming a competent risk taker". This statement could not be truer. In my field of, Automotive Product Design being a risk taker could not be more important. If the engineers of this world did not take risks on the designs of their cars, how would they look today, and in the future? Some of the designs for the new hybrid cars are so outrages that they don't end up making them, but there are some that
have crazy looks. For those to be produced is a risk for that company, because they might not sell.
A calculated risk is when you think ahead and see what the risk will do for you. Calculated risks are safe in a way because it is almost a win, win situation. For every reasonable risk there is a possible reward: compound rewards are surprise reward, one that you don't anticipate at the time of taking the risk. The only way to gain these rewards is to get out of your comfort zone and take calculated risks. When engineers design a car they don't just jump in. They plan everything out. Then they design it on a computer, then they make a small scale model, and present to the public. Then they take the reaction that they get, and then decide if they will put it into production. That would be considered a calculated risk. They are stepping out of their comfort zone and trying something new. They can then decide if they want to make it.
