An example of ethnocentrism is illustrated in the beginning of the movie when Professor Jerry Lambeau has long ago won awards because of his mathematical brilliance. Lambeau first pursued Will after the discovery of a physics problem which Will had voluntary solved by Will, while working at Harvard as a janitor. Only a few elite math professors have ever conquered the problem. Lambeau's goal was to fulfill Will's life with the judgement of his own valued beliefs, by giving Will a choice of either serving time in jail, or study with Lambeau and visiting a psychologist twice a week. Will of course chose the understudy program. Lambeau took his own ethnocentrism and forced it upon Will by degrading things like his job and friends, which Will valued so much. In one visitation to Lambeau, Will had solved a difficult problem over night, Lambeau frustration took a turn for the worst by his own words, "most days I wake up and wish that I had not met you.
