Baseball, the great American pastime, has been part of a unique tradition for many years. The sport that is loved by many. I know for a fact that it was deeply loved by my family. Ever since then my family has chosen to be a part of this tradition. Although it seems ironic to have a sport as a family legacy, the generations have passed this tradition down and thus far it has been successful. Playing baseball and being successful at it is one of the most important aspects of my family and the legacy continues.
It first began with my grandfather, Robert Walck. He began this tradition as he went through all his schooling and got the chance to play professional baseball. Needless to say, he made the most of his chance. After playing pro ball for seven years, he became a coach, as well as a father. Robert Walck was the father of three boys who would all turn end up to be excellent athletes. One of those boys was my father, Craig Walck. During the boys' teenage years, they were informed very well on the sport and had outstanding work ethics due to a strict and dedicated father. Robert followed his stand
I am the first one of the last generation to carry on the Walck legacy. Baseball has been such an important factor in my life experiences, and I hope it continues to be a part, as well as a part of my child's development. The legacy has not failed thus far; I am at Shepherd college continuing my professional dreams as well as playing in front of professional scouts throughout the summers. I do have the chance as long as I work hard at it. However, the most important lesson that I have learned from my father which he said his dad never preached was, "Baseball will only be there so long, so why not get something that will last forever, and that is a degree." I hope to carry on the legacy which I believe I will do a superb job because I already see parts of my father in me. I will install the importance of baseball to my children but most of all I will take my father's advice and stress the importance of an education.
