Barbara Kingsolvers view of American society comes out very strong in her writing. She views different things in society in a new way. She sees many different ideas in the way that life should be like. Some of the views that she sees in different and new ways are her opinions on the typical family, Immigration, and Religion. Her writing reflects very much on how she views life.
In many of Barbara's writings she describes the families in an unusual way. She describes them as sometimes no father or no mother. She believes that there is no typical family. The world is changing and so are families. Now in life there are many different types of families. Black and white, single mother or single father.
In her writing she is saying that this is typical too. It is possible to have a complete family with out a biological mother and father. "The cheering section includes his mother and her friends, his brother, his father, and stepmother, a stepbrother and stepsister and grandparents. (p.135 Stone soup) This is just one example on how Kingsolver works different family situations into her writing.
Kingsolver also has very strong views on immigration. She expresses these views in the novel that she wrote The Bean Trees. In these novel she makes many references to illegal immigrants.
