Ambition in frankenstein
A detailed Summary of Ambition in frankenstein
Ambition is a strong desire to achieve something. In the novel by Mary Shelly, Frankenstein, there are three key players in the role of ambition. Victor Frankenstein, Robert Walton, and The Creature all have different goals or types of ambition. Whether it's ambition to get revenge, make friends, or be a hero, this novel has it all. It is good to have ambition just not as these three did. We must know when to stop and when it is ok to keep striving towards our goal. This is a story driven by ambition and it all starts with Victor.
Victor Frankenstein is the most ambitious man in the book. It started out as a burning desire to learn. He spent hours upon hours reading and studying. Then when he actually decided to create the creature his goal changed. He so passionately would work on the monster all day and not leave the room. That's what he did for 4 years. Read, study, and then create. Due to his ambition he was blinded, he did not realize what he was doing until it was too late. After this accomplishment his ambition was gone because he completed his g

oal. Tired and alone he went home. He was very content with himself until William was murdered. Victor knew it was the creature so he made it his mission to find him. Fueled by his hatred for the creature, due to the death of just about everyone he knows and loves, his ambition was to kill the creature. He says, "Again do I vow vengeance; again do I devote thee, miserable wretch, to torture and death. Never will I give up my search until he !
or I perish..." (Shelly, p.195). This quote shows Victors lust for killing the creature. This lust led to his own death despite the help of Robert Walton.
We must know our limits, our stress points, and our breaking points or our ambitions will take us right past them. This is so the case of Victor and his creation. The one man who did know his limits was Walton and look when it got him. I'm sure he regretted not have making it to the North Pole, but I'm also sure he lived a great life. What made his life great is the story that he carried inside of him of Victor, the creature, and one heck-of-a journey.
