The story “Everyday Use” is about a mother with two daughters. They did not have their father around and their mom had to raise them all by herself. The sisters, Maggie and Dee, are very different. Maggie has many hindrances in her life but Dee, on the other hand, is a girl with ambition to have a better life, and she would tramp on people to get it. Her mom said: “Hesitation was no part of her nature”(29).

Dee is a young girl who is ashamed of her poverty. She never brought friends to her house and she
