homosexulity in america

Homosexuality is a topic that many people refuse to talk about because of personal prejudice or, they chose to simply forget about the existence of such individuals. However, there are those individuals who openly support these individuals, as well as there are those who are disgusted by the thought of two human beings of the same sex being involved emotionally and psychically. People often overreact to the news of an acquaintance, friend, or family member coming out of the closet with negative thoughts and comments. Let us take a look at the lifestyle of homosexuals, hate crimes committed against them, and active legislation in which homosexuals are involved to better accommodate their lifestyles.

Lifestyle by definition is the way that an individual and or a group of individuals decide to carry out their lives. Some individuals come to a conscious agreement to spend the rest of their lives in each other's company by the union of marriage. But what happens when these individuals are both members of the same sex? Robert Knight is well known among the homosexual population in El Paso. He is the head of the LAMBDA chapter in this city. Put yourselves in a stranger's shoes and try to feel what it feels like to be discriminated against, harassed and, in some cases, even beaten just because there is disapproval of whom you love.

portray homosexuals as extremely feminine figures. Also that new show (referring to Queer As Folk) only glamorizes the homosexual lifestyle, and distorts reality to become a false reality." This show creates a false image of the homosexual lifestyle. One of the major flaws that this show possesses is the lack of the female component that is visibly noticeable. Also this show gives a view of the life of handsome, young men having extreme amounts of fun and sexual activity, and implementing perfection by the lack of problems these characters possess.

unspeakable harassment and violence because of who they are, also we are not asking for special treatment under the law, we are fighting for equality under the law."

The reality of homosexuality is hard and crude due to the style of visualization of society. There are many crimes committed against the homosexual community because of their sexual preference. Perhaps one of the most disturbing and most remembered hate crimes against the homosexual community would be the murder of Matthew Shepard. Matthew was a twenty one year old student at the University of Wyo
