childrens books
A detailed Summary of childrens books
The age group that I selected is first grade. I read 10 books that were suggested with the reading level for this age group. They are books that have a lot of pictures so that the children are able to associate the words with the pictures easily. I have also evaluated how well these books did in teaching the children how to read.
The first book that I have chosen to read is called Sleeping, by Marcia Vaughan. This eight-page book talks about where different animals sleep. I thought this book was great for the students at the beginning of their first grade year. It had bright pictures that went along well with the sentences. All of the sentences rhymed making it easier for the students to grasp the concepts. This book was also helpful in teaching the children about animals.
I also read the book Rain, Rain, by Joy Cowley. This book was eight pages long and it seemed to be a little easier to read than the last one. It is about a family who is camping and it won't stop raining, so they decide to make the best of their time and go play in the rain. The pictures were very good, in that you could easily associate it with what you are reading. The sentences were repetitive making it easy enough

Another book that I read was Bang. This eight-page book by Graeme Gash seems to be a little harder than the last ones. It is about five bunnies that see a man with a gun chasing after them. The sentences rhymed which helps to tell what word is coming next. The pictures, however, didn't go along exactly with what the words were saying. This would make it harder for children at a lower reading level figure out the words. They could still probably sound them out; they just couldn't associate the words with the pictures.
I also selected the book called Mr. Wind, by Lucy Lawrence to read for this assignment. This book talks about how the wind blows through the house. It is eight-pages long, but seems to be too difficult for kindergarteners. I really liked the pictures in this book- they were made with cut-up pieces of paper. It has a rhyming pattern, but the words aren't as simple as I the last books. The children learn a lesson on how the wind blows and the book gives them more knowledge on the subject.
The Little Car, by Joy Cowely is 16 pages long and more age appropriate for first graders. It is about the family car that gets away from them. This book has good pictures that relate to the sentences. It uses repetitive language on the same page to predict what is being said. They could probably also easily sound out the words that are being used.
The next book I chose to read was Dad's Bike, by Lucy Lawrence. This eight-page book was about a young boy wanting a
