homosexuality

Homosexuality is a topic that many people refuse to talk about because of personal prejudice or, they chose to simply forget about the existence of such individuals. However, there are those individuals who openly support these individuals, as well as there are those who are disgusted by the thought of two human beings of the same sex being involved emotionally and psychically. People often overreact to the news of an acquaintance, friend, or family member coming out of the closet with negative thoughts and comments. Let us take a look at the lifestyle of homosexuals, hate crimes committed against them, and active legislation in which homosexuals are involved to better accommodate their lifestyles.

Lifestyle by definition is the way that an individual and or a group of individuals decide to carry out their lives. Some individuals come to a conscious agreement to spend the rest of their lives in each other's company by the union of marriage. But what happens when these individuals are both members of the same sex? Robert Knight is well known among the homosexual population in El Paso. He is the head of the LAMBDA chapter in this city. He is a self-confessed homosexual and is married to his life long companion Michael. Whe

Organizations are taking a stand, pushing Congress to pass stricter legislation against hate crimes and pushing for equal rights for homosexuals. One of the organizations that has become notorious in this particular struggle is the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). Across most of the United States, it is perfectly legal to fire someone from his or her job solely because of his or her sexual orientation. Federal law could remedy this sorry state, but for the last several years, Congress has been unable agree on legislation that would outlaw discrimination in the workplace based on real or perceived sexual orientation. Despite a defeat by the narrowest margin in the Senate in 1996, the Republican leadership has refused to bring the bill, known as ENDA (Employment Non-Discrimination Act), up for votes since then (www.aclu.org/action/enda10796.html). There is also the case of Gary R-------. This man was assaulted in the side of a Texas beach. Gary was enjoying a beer when out of nowhere appeared two young men and asked if they could have a beer. Gary said yes, in no time the men consumed all of Gary's beer. After noting a certain
