How Lord of the Flies was like World War IILord of the Flies was like World War II in many ways. The way the littluns are in physical depression, and the way Jack treats all the littluns, and the way the book ended reminded me of World War II. In a way the island is a dreadful small Germany, with the same type of murdering, depression, and killing happening on it. The way war is spread in this book explains a lot of how war happens. In Lord of the Flies the littluns were in deep depression. They wanted to go home, they didn't have food, and didn't have the power to go and get it themselves. The same type of thing happened in Germany, the Germans were in a deep depression and didn't have the money or power to stand up for themselves.
In the case of Lord of the Flies Jack stood up to be their leader; not only a leader but one who could give them food and shelter, since they were in physical depression this was good. In the case of the Germans, Hitler stepped up and provided the Germans with food and shelter, this was also good for their physical depression. That is how Jack got his power, and how Hitler got his power: they gave the people what they wanted plus a little bit of power and respect, and the people ate it up like last week's issue of Soap Opera's Digest.
