The 16th annual Louisiana Classics took place earlier this week at the Oakbourne Country Club, in Lafayette.
On Monday, low scores were seen throughout the day, as 20 players shot even par or better. Among the players with low scores was the University of Tennessee's Jason Powell. Powell fired a 67, which entered the record books as the second-best round in the tournament's history.
Tennessee also took the overall team lead after the first day of play, finishing up the day with a team score of nine-under-par, 279. The hosting University of Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns finished off their day in fourth place, after shooting an even par, 288, on the 7,002 yard, par 72 course.
