I find Davidson to be confusing, but yet fascinating at the same time. Davidson analyzes questions that not just anyone can comprehend. Although I do not completely agree with everything he says, I do share some of the same thoughts that he does. Davidson is a mastermind when he picks apart certain actions and the backround of those actions. In these essays I have enjoyed expanding my mind to new lengths. Through out this paper my views and Davidsons are alike and extremely different.
Essay one was my least favorite but at the same time this essay made me think the most. An action doesn't always need a reason. Actions are given reasons because of a scientific explanation. I feel that actions can be independent. A reason on the other hand does rationalize the action like Davidson says. A reason plays a huge part in why the action took place. The reason is like a bubble around the action explaining why such events took place. Most events are easy to connect to a primary reason. Although how do we know why someone actually did something. Davidson likes to give examples of why things happen in a different perspective. I disagree because most actions are self- explanatory
I totally do not understand Essay two possibly that is just my personal misunderstanding. I find the essay extremely confusing and very misinterpreting. I don't understand how a person acts intentionally against what he knows and what he believes in. I moved on to Essay three were an agent and an event makes the event an action. Agency I think always is an intentional action such as taking a shower or eating breakfast. Unintentional actions are being woken up or tripping over the rug the hallway. Agency is a question that can go either way. When you take a shower or when you spill the coffee that is the agent. The agent is the one that calls the shot he or she determines what happens. Davidson has an interesting argument to the theory of why the agent does not control everything. Davidson feels that the agent might want to point his finger. It is actually the muscles in the finger that move the finger. This example doesn't show that it is a primitive action. Davi!
dson has a great point but it doesn't explain everything. I think that an action does require an agent to intentionally command that action. Although the final action might not be entirely done by the agent. Davidsons next question that I find fascinating is if the agent ties the untied shoelace then how is the action being related to the ones shoelace being tied. I understand what davidson is trying to say although many people can be very confused.
and they don't need a lot of thoughts as to why someone did what they did. For example why did a person open the door, because he wanted too, or if someone suddenly got on a plane and flew to another country. That person needs a lot of explanation.
son and cause that's it the process starts over.
I don't want to get away from the topic but freedom to act can be a very meaningful topic. Casual condition is how we live day to day. For example we as humans
