The McDonaldization of Society
A detailed Summary of The McDonaldization of Society
Society today has primarily become McDonalized in its way of thinking and doing everyday activities. According to George Ritzer, in his book The Mcdonalization of Society, he believes that McDonalization is
"the process by which the principles of the fast-food restaurant are coming to dominate more and more sectors of American society as well as of the rest of the world." McDonalization is a way of life. It effects not only the food industry, but also healthcare, education, the workplace and almost everything else we do. The reason for this is because society is becoming fast pace and there is a need for efficiency, calculability, predictability and control. Since society is fast paced, there is no time for traditional ways of doing things. People are stuck on this new way of thinking, McDonalization.
In the fast-food industry, people benefit in all areas. With the availability of fast food chains around the world people can do less work, use spare time efficiently, get more for less and know what exactly to expect when they sit down to eat something. McDonalds is very efficient for today's society. People do not have the time to make a filling meal for a family. Going to McDonalds for dinner, they know they are able

In the workplace, McDonalization is very important. Taylor's idea of Scientific Management plays a key role. This idea of Scientific Management is very valuable to an owner or president of a company. The ideas stress getting the work done quickly, the easiest possible way, while making as much profit as possible. Workers are trained all in similar fashion to work like the best skilled man to produce more in a short period of time. Using the assembly line is very helpful to making a job more productive, but workers being put in this situation are forced to work under overly controlling situations. These types of jobs are useful to the economy, but involve no use of the brain. This process is a boring way to complete repetitive work. I believe that this type of work leads this society to decline in expanding their horizons. In this type of work the employee has no say in what goes on. I believe that this type of thing is depressing such that the worker knows that nobod!
On the topic of predictability in education, it is basically easy to pick a college. Most universities have the courses to excel in certain areas of study. It is easy to find a school that will excel in a specific area of your interests. Also as far as testing goes, I believe in this McDonalized way of doing things. Multiple choice testing is very predictable and efficient. Grades in my case have become increasingly higher because there are four to five choices to choo
