the quilt

The story I chose to write my assignment on is the "Quilt" by Tayama Katai. There were a couple of reasons for me to write about this wonderful short story. One of them was that I could not get a hold of the other 2 books anywhere. The other more important reason was that I felt connected to the theme of the story. As humans, we all must have the feeling of being an angel or a devil or somewhere in between. To choose one or the other was a very tough decision. The story tried to put Takio sensei as being in love with Yoshiko and the story develops on how he was torn apart between being the devil or being her guardian angel in her love affair. But this love for Yoshiko wasn't true love, but instead it was lust. There is a very thin line between love and lust and most of us believed that we were in love with someone, but truthfully we were in lust with that other person. Sometimes, it's very difficult for a person to know the difference once they have been put in a sit!

uation similar to Takio sensei, but rest assured it was lust that Takio sensei was feeling.

One might ask what is the difference between love and lust? Where is the line from being in love with the person to lust with the person? I cannot answer you

esires. All he wanted to do that night was thinking of how he should approach her to get her to sleep with him. This night was a great example that Tokio sensei was not in love with Yoshiko san. His desires were not what a person in love would think off. Although he didn't take any action that night, his thought was enough to convince anyone he was not in love with her but lusting for her body and soul to make her his.

The whole story had been about how Tokio sensei saying he was in love with Yoshiko san but the thought he had in his head was not love, but lust for her.

I was really surprised to find out that this was a true story. I have to give heads up to Tayama Katai for writing this story about himself. This story took a lot of courage to write because it was his feeling toward one of his students. For everyone to read the story while knowing that it was for real might ruin his name forever but he still stayed true to his feelings. But he did not establish anything that would prove Yoshiko san was in love with him and that what he thought of her was love and not lust. I am sure that we can all relate to how he was feeling but none of us can really call that love. To love someone means that you truly can forgive their mistakes and try to think of their happiness instead of your own. Even in the end, Tokio sensei was lusting for Yoshiko san as he entered her room and went through her stuff. He couldn't stop thinking about the female scent of her as he lays her quilt out and cried.

"The thought that he had been deceived made this anger boil. He was furious to think how he had done this serious best to help their love, yet all the while having Yoshiko taken from him body and soul by some student. If things had reached that stage ----- if she had given up her body to Tanaka ----- Then there was no need for him to respect her chastity as a virgin. It would be in order for him, too, to make a bold move and satisfy his sexual desire. Such thoughts led him to look upon Yoshiko, whom he had formally worshiped as heavenly, as some sort of prostitutes, whose beautiful attitude and expressions, let alone her body were nothing but contemptible. In such terrible torment, he hardly slept at all that night. All sorts of feelings passed through his hear like dark clouds. Placing his hands on his trouble heart, Tokio thought things over. Perhaps he should... Well, for a start it was a fact that she was soiled, having given her body to a man. Should he simply send Ta!
