LAWRENCE OF ARABIA
A movie depicting the life of Thomas Edward Lawrence , the British officer who tried to assist the Arabs against the Turks (an ally of Germany) during World War I , got 7 of the 10 Academy Awards to which it was nominated and in the year 1963. It was thanks to this movie that Steven Spielberg decided to pursue a career in film making. Based on Lawrence's autobiographical account of his adventures in the desserts of Arabia , the film focuses on the attempts of the British to unite the Arabs against the Turks and revolt against the rule of the Ottoman Empire. As a conlusion , film making is a big tool of propoganda for those countries who are developed in that sector. Generally, countries are not targeted directly, instead , especially in historical and biographical movies , events are presented from one point of view only. Butterfly , Midnight Express , Never Without My Daughter, Red Corner and Western Movies are examples of such movies. Although those movies are not totally subjective , an objective approach can not always be seen. There are two things in the movie which have been exaggerated by the director : the first one is the scene when Turkish planes randomly bomb innocent people in Arabia. It is controversial that the Turkish army had combat planes of its own at that point in time. Turkey was allied with Germany during World War I and most of the technical capabilities of the Turkish army were provided by and controlled by the Germans. The Turkish flags on those planes were very big and the director made sure that you saw those flags
