squirrel

Once there was a squirrel who was very brave and very bold. She loved excitement and adventure. She climbed the highest trees. She explored the darkest, spookiest hollow logs, the old red squirrel went on. She cautiously wove her way through the thickets of weeds and she scaled the most rugged rocks. Soon, there were no more places to find adventure in her homeland woods so the bold and brave squirrel became bored.

What did she do then? asked Chipper. Well, one day, answered the old Red Squirrel, she sat by herself watching the other, not-so-brave, and not-so-bold squirrels go about the dreary daily business of gathering nuts. What can I do? she asked herself. I've had every adventure I can think of!

Then a thought popped into her head. What lies beyond the woods? she wondered. She quickly decided that she would find out.

That evening, just when the sun looked like it was resting on the top of a distant hill, the bold and brave squirrel sat in a tree at the edge of the woods. She looked out across the grassy openness we call a meadow.

But, she was a very brave squirrel and a very bold squirrel, and not even the thought of dange

The little squirrel zigged, and she zagged, just barely ahead of the fox, until she found the hollow log. Into the log she ran, with the fox right behind. And the log got smaller, and smaller, and smaller, until. Ouch! shrieked the fox as he became stuck. You tricked me!

The little squirrel didn't stop running until she reached the first tree of the woods. Then she scampered high into its leafy branches where she knew no fox could follow. And then a funny thing happened. What? What happened? demanded the Pines.

I like crawling through hollow logs, said one twin, boldly. Me too, said the other, bravely. And so did I before I got old and fat, laughed McGregor.
