Drew Barrymore

1 When six-pound,five-ounce baby Drew was born into the Barrymore family her mother was overjoyed. Drew Barrymore was born on February 22, 1975, at Brotman Memorial Hospital in Culver City, California. Barrymore is the daughter of actor John Drew Barrymore Jr. and Ildiko Jaid. Drew's grandparents, John Barrymore and Dolores Costello and grandparents Maurice Barrymore and Georgiana Drew were all involved in the acting business. Drew's family background wasn't much of a pleasant remembrance to her. All she ever knew about her family was that they had drinking problems and that they were all great actors and actresses.

Her mother was the only one in her life that was really in line and didn't have any problems except for trying to keep Drew, as well as herself, safe and away from the problems that Drew's father was capable of creating. Until about age five or six Drew loved her father very much, too young to understand what he was really all about. John Drew Barrymore Jr., Drew's father didn't really want much to do with her. Whenever he came to see Drew or her mother he was either drunk or stoned. He would always bring Drew presents to try and stay on her good side and buy her love.

Besides trying to be accepted by others, another factor that prevented her to do good in school was that she was never in school, but rather always traveling as an actress with her mother. Even though she had been tutored every day for three hours before she had to be on the set that wasn't merely enough to keep a good average in school.

5 Drew began her acting career when her mothers friend decided to send in a picture of Drew to a modeling agency. The modeling agency called Drew's mother telling her to bring Drew in for an audition for a Puppy Choice dog food commercial. This was Drew's first work. After this commercial debut, Jaid received a call from Steven Spielberg. He informed her that she should bring Drew in for an audition. When Drew got the part she was very joyous. When the movie started to film Drew fell in love with Steven and from that point on she has always looked up to him and he became her godfather.

Well Drew, on the other hand, didn't think twice before she started playing with the puppy and running around with it not even noticing that people were watching her every move. Even when she was filming, it would be like she was going through every step like it was real life. Everybody on the set was amazed because at the age she was, they expected her to get a feeling for the part that she was playing right at about the tenth or eleventh try not the first like she always did. It was like she knew what she was doing without any bit of training.

At the audition a puppy was let out to see how each kid would react to it, whether it be that they cry or walk away from it or whatever the case may be.

At age nine Drew started getting into the drug picture trying harder and harder to be accepted by other students. Throughout her school years she was never really accepted until she met the kids that introduced her to the drug scene.

ays volunteered to watch her while her mother was at a scene, but she never trusted him until one day he begged and pleaded to let him watch Drew. She agreed, but only if there was someone else present. That was the day when Drew realized who her dad really was and what he was capable of. He was an expert at karate and kept pushing Drew to play fight with him, however, the play to him wasn't play - it was real. Drew didn't think anything of it because she knew her dad was drinking and thought that it was the alcohol acting rather than him. She went on and on telling him how much it hurt, but he wouldn't stop. Drew then began yelling at him and cursing him out telling him how inconsiderate he was. That was the last Drew saw her father. After that incident, Drew understood why her mother was trying to keep her away from her dad.

6 Drew possesses a lot of personal qualities that led to her success as an actress. Naturally she is very outgoing and open to anything.
