Ashella's father eventually comes forward to tell the story of his first wife and his daughter, and how the prince had actually encountered the merchant's daughter. Running for the merchant's house in search of Ashella with the glass slipper the prince falls and the glass slipper shatters. Having completed her mother's wishes the son was now in complete agony, having no father, no love no happiness.
