In looking at these five web sites, I was able to find ample information about the photographs and lives of the people who made their westward journey. I was able to find information on the westward movement and was able to be linked to other very helpful sites. The first web site that I looked at was the Photographs of the American West 1861-1912. This site allowed me to read a brief overview of the westward movement. I was able to look at 196 different pictures to fully understand the geographics of the time and what it was like as one who was making the movement. There were many photos to view seeing as how the "Federal agencies continue to document changes on the face of Western America." The photos were very easy to find and view, and this would be extremely helpful for kids at an earlier age because it is so simple to see the whole story. I was also able to view photos taken by Timothy O'Sullivan, whom we learned about earlier in class. Through the photos, I was able to see the different surveys and expeditions of the land as well as see the lives of the men through the camera. I also found it easy to learn about the movement through Oklahoma, Arizona, and Kansas. All in all, this site prove
out railroad construction and those pictures showed us how the railroads did play an important part in expansion. I thought that this site was very helpful and had some insightful photos to check out. a better understanding in the life of the entire westward movement. The site Biography of William Henry Jackson was also very helpful if one needed to find out the life of William Jackson. As soon as you enter this site you are able to view a brief chronology of his life and this shows the important aspects of his life. We also learn here that Jackson was also "well-known for his round-the-world expedition photographing railroads and other types of transportation in twenty-four countries for the World's Transportation Commission." Another aspect of this site was the fact that I was able to select a country from Jackson's trip itinerary and find photos and information about such places. Again, this site would be helpful to someone who would need to do heavy research and be able to link quickly to other sites. The next three sites that we had to look at were all very similar to each other. All three of these sites were made by the Library of Congress and are all connected to their home web site, www.loc.gov. The best thing about these three particular sites, Prairie Settlement, Biography of William Henry Jackson, and History of American West 1860-1920, is that you were able to be linked to many other search engines. You could link to Related Resources, Search, Learning Page, and even How To Obtain Reproductions of all photos. It is obvious that these sites are far superior to the latter two sites for the mere fact that t
