A detailed Summary of hurricane
In the movie The Hurricane, Rubin "Hurricane" Carter was put in jail for half of his life because of a corrupt police officer abused his power and unfairly jailed Carter. Officer Della Pesca was responsible for all of the things Rubin Carter was charged with. The reason Officer Della Pesca desperately wanted him in jail so badly was because Carter was an African American. During the 1950's,1960's and 1970's corrupt politics and racism were common problems in every community.
Rubin Carter faced corrupt politics and racism for most of his life. When Rubin was a young boy, he and his friends were confronted by an older white man who was acting in a suspicious manor. The boys were frightened, therefore, one of them picked up a bottle and hit the man in the head. They all ran, but Rubin could not get away. This was his first encounter with Officer Della Pesca. Carter was questioned about what happened, and eventually acussed of trying to steal the man's watch. Rubin was helpless because Della Pesca was convinced of his guilt because Carter was an African American. Because of Officer Della Pesca's racism and corrupt ways Rubin had to spend his childhood in jail. Della Pesca was so ruthless that he did not even care that

Lezra and his friends moved to New Jersey in order to work soley on the case. They went around and interviewed people and began to solve the case all by themselves. They realized that the car Rubin was in was a different car than the vehicle that the murderers were in. Also they found old records and things that just simply were not presented in the original case. They realized that the whole case was fixed. When they showed Rubin a card with writing from the police call Rubin knew right away that the handwriting was Officer Della Pesca's. When he saw the handwriting Rubin knew that he had served meaningless years in jail. When Rubin went back to court he was proven not guilty. He had wasted half of his life due to the evilness of one man.
When Rubin got into the jail he would not follow any of their rules. He would not eat their food, wear their clothes, or do their jobs. He knew he was innocent, and he continued to assure himself that he would be released. When it was time for his second trial he once again had an all white jury, and the decision stood as guilty. He was now convinced that being an African American was the reason he had been charged with everything. He now began to believe he was going to be in jail for his life. He told his wife not to come around anymore, and he decided not to want anything anymore. He read all about his case and he could not come up with anything to change the situation. So he began writing a book. His book was the story of everything that happened. It told the true story and it had a detailed description of the way he acted in the ring. He also wrote about how upset he was with the society and the way government works. This book did not have a positive outcome !
When the movie is over, one might have an angry feeling. Because of his color Rubin Carter had to spend half of his life without freedom. He was hated by Della Pesca because he was an African American, but it is a shame because such a mean man as Della Pesca had the power to rui
