What does the word discourse mean? Webster's Dictionary describes it as a formal discussion of a subject in speech or in writing. Taking this in mind, I choose and analyzed the discourse of an article found in PC World called "Speed Secrets," written by Jeff Bertolucci, The Article gives the reader an understanding of the differences between the different types of microprocessors and the other internal components of computers that gives them, their speed.
After reading the article, I sat there and tried to imagine who exactly would be reading this article and for what reason they where reading it. To get an understanding of who the article was intended for, I think that it is best to look at the information that was presented. Although the article is written on such a technical subject, Bertolucci, manages to write it in a manor that allows anyone from the common novice to the proven teche to an understanding of the full meaning behind the article. After reading the main article, a less knowledgeable reader might be sitting there wondering what exactly they had just read. Most likely if they were in the market to purchase they would have an idea of what some of the parts were, but to avoid this situation, Bertolucci includes links to side excerpts throughout the body of the main article to explain the technology behind the internal engine of the CPU.
