A prime example was Six Days and Seven Nights filmed in 1998, staring Harrison Ford, who is 53 opposite Anne Heche who is 25. Also the perfect murder with Michael Douglas, at 55 and Gwyneth Paltrow, at 24 portrays an older man involved in intimate relationships. Pittman says that "Its a long standing film tradition." It goes as far back as 45-year-old Humphrey Bogart shacking up with Lauren Bacall, in Have and Have Not. And it can be traced back to the beginning of the film industry.
According to Dr. Pittman these types of relationships have two meanings, the first being that it's is a dangerous world out there and that young ladies need a man even, an old man to rescue them from it. Next men feel more heroic when in the presence of a woman who is inferior to them, that is why most male's egos and even testosterone levels go up when they see those types of movies. This tradition

This type of relationship not only benefits the man but the female as well. She gets a young lover who has no need to be the king or the hero. As long as woman can ignore the message that the film industry projects, this type of relationship has a good chance of working because both parties get what they want with out the same old hassles from another relationships.
