Job Analysis
Running Head: SALES REPRESENTATIVE JOB ANALYSISJob Analysis of an Ames Co. Sales Representative Our methods of job analysis included the following: an interview with a representative of the job (an incumbent), the Occupational Information Network (O*NET), and other literature sources. We decided to research these three sources because they included three differing types of information that would give us a broad database to complete the job analysis. The interview was conducted by Matthew Hurd. He interviewed his mother who has been working at Ames department store for some time. Specifically questions were asked about what is done on the job specifically, how these tasks are completed, how much time it takes to perform each task, how often the task is performed, what physical activities are necessary for the job, what the environmental conditions are like, typical work incidents (interpretation of feelings, influence of other people and their feelings, repetitive work, self directed work, hazardous conditions etc.), what records and reports are prepared for the job! and supervising responsibilities. The interview was conducted face to face in a mo

The literature sources also had their strengths and weaknesses. We found that Human Resource Selection (5th edition) by Gatewood and Field as well as Job Analysis: An Effective Management Tool by Bemis, Belenky and Soder was very helpful in helping us compile the task statements and writing this paper accurately. They gave guidelines and directions about how to complete the analysis successfully. Another advantage is that these sources are accredited and considered valid so the information in them can be considered factual and unbiased. We found that a major disadvantage of these sources was that they were not particularity efficient. It took larger amounts of time and effort to extract the applicable information from the literature sources than it took to complete the interview and O*NET review. This is because the information needed to be found, narrowed down and then applied to what we needed it for. Some of the information was so broad that it could not be filed d! 54) Prepares "rain check" for customer.
