A detailed Summary of Cult Films

The Killer, Rocky Horror, and Casablanca

A Cult Film is a film which gravitates away from the norm, and deals with a taboo subject, something in which intrigues it's audience members. The subject matter is bizarre and ahead of the times yet it is a subject matter, which is not completely inconceivable. Cult films are generally against the grain not mainstream high budget pictures. They also are different and tend to cater to educated young adults. The minds of the younger audience members are fresh and working constantly cult films have substance topics can be discussed. Mainstream films are carbon copies all dealing with similar themes: disaster, romance, good guy, bad guy, and always a happy ending. I can't see any similarities between "The Killer," and "Rocky Horror," just the comic value and the desire to see it over and over again. They can be discussed and laughed at with friends. I believe "Rocky Horror," is still considered cult because younger generations coming into young adulthood can experience the movie the same way the !

Casablanca was the first cult film. I believe this movie is cult because during the 1940's people were used to mainstream films dealing with themes I discussed in the first paragraph of my paper, good guys, bad guys, romance and happy endings.
