In our world today, there are many different cultures. Some practices and beliefs in one culture may not be considered morally right in another. According to Mary Midgley, one cannot judge outside of his or her culture. This is because people are brought up with different religions, values, and practices. People who follow the Hindu religion worship the cow and believe it to be a symbol of the earth. Hindu's feel consuming beef or veal to be blasphemous and noisome. Most Americans, however, would consider this to be ludicrous since numerous ingest cow meat on a daily basis. By studying the Hinduism and the reasons for worshiping the "sacred cow", Americans may be able to understand and respect their practices. Many Western cultures feel worshiping the cow to be a silly practice of the Hindu religion. But, "Nobody can respect what is entirely unintelligible to them.
