My grandmother gave up smoking to raise me when I was an infant. She quit because my mother would not allow her to see her grandchildren. Instead of quitting for me it would have made me a lot happier if she would have never started. For many years she smoked two packs of KOOL cigarettes a day. At first she didn't smoke around me but smoked without me being in her presence. When I was in fifth grade I remember my parents talking about my grandmother. By this time my grandmother had actually completely quit smoking. So I eagerly listened to what my parents were saying. Then my mother told my dad that my grandmother had told my mom that she had coughed up blood. My grandmother wasted no time to go see a doctor. She was in a doctor's office in a matter of days so they could perform some tests on her to find out what the problem was. A few days passed after she had gone to the doctor's office .I stayed home sick from school one day and stayed at my grandmother's house while my parents were at work. During that afternoon my grandfather called my mom and said that my grandmothers condition has really deteriorated. So my mom went down to their house all day long when that night while my dad and I were watching television the phone rang. It was my mom and my grandmother had passed away. It felt like a big piece of me was missing. Luckily the members of my grandparent's community and friends got together and worked out that someone would drive my grandmother to receive her treatments. The people had decided to trade off driving amongst the people that were willing and available to drive her. After she started receiving treatments she became very tired and slept often. Her face had become inflamed and she started to lose weight. This was far from the grandmother that I had become so close to over the many years. And the worst part was is that I could tell the end was near. I went to school and my first day of practice. During the day my friends had all comforted me as they know how close my grandmother and me were to each other. I didn't even have a
